New Delhi, December 29, 2025: The All India Chakma Students’ Union (AICSU) has urged the Uttarakhand government to transfer the investigation of the Angel Chakma murder case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and to shift the trial outside the state, preferably to Delhi. Angel Chakma, an MBA student from Tripura, was allegedly attacked in a racially motivated incident.
In a statement, AICSU highlighted serious lapses by the Uttarakhand Police, including a three-day delay in registering the FIR despite the incident occurring on December 9. The union also pointed to refusal by the Selakui Police Station to register the complaint promptly, failure to invoke appropriate legal provisions initially, and attempts by senior police officials to downplay the case as a “fight” while ignoring racial abuse.
The organisation also raised concerns about hospital negligence, noting that the victim was admitted in critical condition to Graphic Era Hospital, yet the police were not immediately informed, raising questions about institutional transparency and accountability.
Citing witness safety concerns, AICSU emphasized that family members and key eyewitnesses do not feel safe in Uttarakhand, necessitating the trial transfer to ensure a fair judicial process.
Among its demands, AICSU called for a CBI probe into police conduct and hospital negligence, immediate action against erring officials, arrest of the absconding accused, compensation of ₹2 crore to the victim’s family, and creation of a special police cell to protect students and residents from the Northeast in Uttarakhand.
AICSU reaffirmed that justice for Angel Chakma cannot be compromised and vowed to pursue the matter through all legal and constitutional channels.
