Azawl:29th December, 2025: Concern is growing in Mizoram over two separate cases of citizens reported missing abroad, with authorities intensifying efforts to trace their whereabouts.
Ellen Lalthlamuani (40), daughter of Lalchawimawii of Mission Veng, Aizawl, has been missing in Vietnam since November 18, 2025. According to the Mizo Diaspora Cell under the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the Special Branch of the CID is actively investigating the case, while the state Home Department has taken up the matter with the Ministry of External Affairs.
Officials said preliminary information regarding her whereabouts has been received, but details cannot yet be made public. Ellen, who was working in Mumbai, had travelled to Vietnam on November 12 on an official assignment from her company. On November 18, she was expected to speak with her family around 7:30 am (IST), but the call never happened. Subsequent attempts to contact her also failed, and her location has remained unknown since then.
In another case, a Salvation Army officer couple—Major Lalthanmawia and his wife Major Rualthanpuii—have been missing since December 19 while travelling from Myanmar to Mizoram. Home Minister K. Sapdanga told Akashvani Aizawl that information about their disappearance surfaced through social media. Although no formal report has yet been received, the CID has launched a thorough investigation, and the CMO’s Mizo Diaspora Cell is closely monitoring the situation.
The couple serves under the Salvation Army Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar and Thailand Territory and were posted at Letpanchhawng village in Myanmar. They left Letpanchhawng on December 18 for Tahan, intending to travel to Mizoram to celebrate Christmas. On the morning of December 19, they departed from Tahan towards Mizoram, after which all contact was lost.
State authorities said efforts are ongoing to trace all those missing and to coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure their safe return.
