Kamalangar, December 31, 2025: The Central Mizoram Chakma Students’ Union (CMCSU) organized a Sit-In Solidarity Protest at Kamalanagar under the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) on Tuesday, demanding justice for Anjel Chakma, who lost his life in a brutal racial attack.
The CMCSU condemned the incident and expressed serious concern over how the case has been handled so far. The Union demanded that the case be immediately transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), citing lapses by the Dehradun Police, including delays in registering the FIR and alleged attempts to dilute or conceal the racial aspect of the attack. They further called for shifting the case to Delhi to ensure transparency and an impartial investigation.
Addressing the gathering, CMCSU leaders stated that Anjel Chakma was targeted not because of his identity as Chakma, Mizo, or Triprasa, but due to his physical appearance and facial features. The leaders emphasized that racial violence affects people beyond any single community, particularly marginalized groups in the Northeast, and should be treated as a national concern.
The Union urged all tribal communities and the people of Northeast India to raise their voices collectively against racial discrimination and injustice, highlighting that silence only strengthens perpetrators and delays justice. They also appealed to the Government of India to introduce and reinforce institutional safeguards, legal provisions, and awareness mechanisms to prevent racial attacks and ensure swift justice for victims.
The protest saw participation from the Central and Branch Committees of Chakma Mahila Samiti and Young Chakma Association, alongside students and the general public. Participants observed a solemn prayer for Anjel Chakma and lit candles in his memory, reaffirming their determination to continue the democratic struggle until justice is delivered.
Reiterating its stand, the CMCSU stated that “justice delayed is justice denied,” affirming its commitment to accountability, fairness, and dignity for all.
