Kamalanagar, September 16, 2025: Employees working under Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) in Mizoram staged peaceful sit-in demonstrations today under the banner of the All Mizoram CSS Employees Coordination Committee (AMCECC). The protest, held simultaneously across the state aimed to press for the long-standing demand of regularization of CSS employees.
In Kamalanagar, the headquarters of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC), a large number of employees gathered in front of the council office to participate in the demonstration. Similar protests were reported from other districts, reflecting the wide support for the cause among CSS workers.
The employees, drawn from various departments including health, agriculture, social welfare, women and child development, and digital crop survey, raised concerns over job insecurity and sought permanent status within the state government framework.
This sit-in follows a recent three-day mass casual leave strike organized by AMCECC, underscoring the growing frustration among CSS staff over their employment conditions. Protesters reiterated that without regularization, thousands of employees engaged in crucial development programs continue to face uncertain futures despite years of service.
The demonstrations remained peaceful, with no reports of police intervention or disruptions to public life.
Observers say the protest reflects broader debates in Mizoram about contract-based employment in government-run schemes, where temporary arrangements often leave workers without long-term security. With today’s demonstration, AMCECC has once again highlighted its commitment to continue mobilizing until meaningful reforms are achieved.
